I've been able to see and experience so much through the power of gravel bikes, but a change I would like to see is more black people riding gravel and showing up at gravel events. “Bikes have been a big part of who I am for a long time, and I was scared that getting pregnant would disconnect me from bikes. I’m used to pregnancy being represented by flowy dresses and flower crowns or something that is fragile and protected. I never saw myself in that representation of pregnancy and motherhood, so it was hard to see myself in that role at all. When we decided to have a baby, I knew I wanted to be something different - to trade flower crowns for bike helmets - to keep my identity as a cyclist.” - Amanda

Kathy Pruitt has been racing motocross since she was a toddler and has been a professional cyclist since she was 12. Her career is impressive, and she is grateful for the people who helped make it possible. She now has a wealth of knowledge that she loves passing along to others. Recently, she took new Flashpoint MVMNT rider Rachel Parker out for a gravel skills session. Rachel may have numerous road race and crit podiums on her palmarés, but she’s newer to riding on the dirt and was eager to get some tips from somebody as experienced as Kathy.

The Flashpoint MVMNT crew finally got to get on a plane together for an international adventure to…Grinduro Switzerland! What could be better than a riding with views of the Swiss Alps and cheese fondue aid stations?!

Is anything better than bikes and ice cream?! At Sea Otter Classic, we hosted a chill group ride on the event’s gravel race course. We had a great time sliding around the sandy singletrack with a fun mix of riders, and the surprise ice cream stop was great too!

Nehemiah has been partnering with Play Marin to help create more cycling opportunities for kids in Marin City. He took some of Play Marin’s ride leaders out on the trail to give them a sense of the adventure bikes can create.

One of Flashpoint MVMNT’s favorite photographers, Dominique Powers, recently did a 3,000-mile road trip that included multiple stops with women she calls “the leaders of gravel.” She put together an incredible portrait series with quotes from the women she spoke with. We were honored to have Flashpoint’s own Amanda Schaper and Kathy Pruitt included in this story.

The Flashpoint MVMNT crew headed down to San Diego for the Belgian Waffle Ride. Our biggest goal was to connect with new riders and learn what changes they want to see in cycling. Plus, ice cream!

Amanda had a blast racing her first Belgian Waffle Ride. Here she shares some thoughts on what the event did well to promote gender inclusivity and where there’s still room for improvement.

Andrew headed to Northern California for his first real bike race at the Grasshopper Adventure Series Huffmaster. He didn’t let his busy schedule stop him from driving all night, barely making it to the start line of this 90-mile race.

WTB’s Ride with Purpose series features WTB’s riders and ambassadors that are “making it a point to drive the cycling industry towards inclusivity.” Nehemiah Brown uses the bike to help promote racial equity, and we were proud to see him featured by WTB.

Nehemiah joined Play Marin for a community gift ride and gifted helmets to riders in need. For some of the kids, it was their longest ride ever! Nehemiah continues to work with Play Marin to help them get more kids on bikes.
